• It was extremely helpful to have so many examples from you where pensions forms have been outright rejected by Capita because their own data on the Performer’s List was inaccurate. This was not something NHSE or PwC were aware of, and we discussed the likely impact on:
    • the apparent number of end-of-year forms submitted (in that I suspect rather more than 10,000 were submitted, but a significant proportion were then rejected by Capita)
    • the issues of historical data apparently “missing”, when in fact this has been in forms which again have been submitted and then rejected
    • the problem it creates of pension contributions, and underpayments, being taken from the wrong practice where a salaried doctor moves but their performers’ list status doesn’t update
    • the impact on individuals’ tax position, in that where underpayments are not taken by PCSE in the relevant tax year, the individual loses tax relief on that income; this has a multiplicative effect where multiple historical years are at play; this is touched on below
  • There are also cases where end-of-year forms submitted under the amnesty, covering a period of historical salaried work, have been rejected because the individual is currently not a salaried doctor. This means PCSE have rejected amnesty forms from years ago based on current employment information; this is a nonsense, and again NHSE and PwC will raise this with Capita.
  • Thank you to those of you who highlighted cases to me where they had been asked, due to a performer’s list error, to resubmit forms. The case where someone was asked to send in two years’ worth of locum A and B forms, along with “all the cheques details incl number and amount and date cashed” before they could close the Performer’s List status was especially helpful. We agreed that you should not have to resubmit any forms, nor any payment details, if the issue is simply a performer’s list update, and an individual case has been raised so Capita know what is expected of them here.
